I grew up with this. I am 60 years old now and I still enjoy watching it. And now, my 7 year old step grandson enjoys it too along with me. Television today, along with the writers and actors are devoid of talent and decency. I watch MeTv and hulu, Amazon Prime and anywhere that I can find the shows that made America a good place to raise your kids. The time when there was talent and a reverence for good, clean comedy. We need to understand that when we turn on our television sets, we are in a sense, inviting these people into our homes to entertain us and our families. South Park and Family Guy are NOT what I want my grandchildren to watch. I demand something better. Unfortunately, the ones who had those gifts are no longer with us. But their legacies live on with the DVD's and I for one am going to get all that I am able to. This is a great and cheap re-release of the original set which I originally bought. However, when I moved I had to sell it. Now I've repurchased it but this set has no paper episode guide like the original release. Is there any chance of posting a downloadable copy of the original episode guide? If you're looking for a particular "Fractured Fairy Tales" or "Peabody's Improbable History" it would surely be a big help!!!!"Rocky amp; Bullwinkle" is a monument to creativity and wit. Much as I liked it as a child, I LOVE it as an adult. The political sarcasm is rampant and superb. How Jay Ward and company got away with this in the late 1950s amp; early 1960s is a true wonder!Season 1 introduces us to Rocky, Bullwinkle and (almost) all the characters who appear throughout the series. Many of these characters are rather different in their initial form, though, as are many elements of style for the animation. There's a charming quality to these early efforts. They are fresh and bursting with creativity. Unfortunately, the series became rather smug and self-important in its later years, losing much of this insouciant innocence.I especially love "Bullwinkle's Corner" (aka "The Poetry Corner"). I think this oft-ignored segment shows us the "true" Bullwinkle, trying, with varying degrees of success, to be an "intellectual" of the period. The best of the lot are those poems ("ahem, poem") that are done straight (more or less). "The Swing" and "Where Go the Boats?" are magnificent!Other reviewers have also commented on this, but never hurts (in case the producers review these things) to add to the chorus. While I respect the Ward family wanting to honor a wish from their father... the replacement music and titles shoult NOT be used for the entire collection. Once the producers (and this goes for Spielberg and Lucas as well, ahem) release it into the public arena... well, its ART. It becomes all of ours. We love it and loved it just the way it was released. Black amp; white movies are best in bamp;w. Big bands are not necessarily better on MP3 or stereo. For me, this really detracts from the viewing of this collection. The original score and titles are part of my childhood, just like the programs themselves. Would they do new voice-overs because they decided someone didn't really like a voice actor? Better not!I love these cartoons, and am happy my child will be able to enjoy them as well. But its sad to have lost the original titles amp; bridge animation. This show entertained me and my children. Being able to stream it for my 4- and 8-year-old granddaughters is a delight! They can't seem to get enough of Fractured Fairy Tales and Boris amp; Natasha's foiled plots. Timeless, ageless . . . and clean--no dirty talk, no overt violence, and still bringing laughs amp; smiles to yet another generation. Wish more of the oldies were available to stream--like Mighty Mouse, Dudley Doright, etc.Its a time machine back to my youth. The humor still appeals, the parts of the show that step out of the normal cartoon genre- the fractured fairy tales, the way back machine with Mr., Peabody and sSherman, the puns, the poetry by Bullwinkle- I am enjoying them all!!!!It's hard to beat Rocky and Bullwinkle and to have the episodes collected in one place is a gift. Pure joy. Nobody writes cartoons like this anymore. A terrible budget meant nothing to the people who made these. The cons with this collection is that the supporting cartoons are way out of order in terms of original air date but only the Rocky and Bullwinkle episodes are in chronological order so it's not a great loss in terms of entertainment. The opening animations are crudely altered which is strange and gets annoying because they are repeated with every episode. It would have been nice to have one example of the original "Rocky and His Friends" opening but perhaps it was so integrated with the original sponsor, General Mills, that a decision was made to not use it.I'm sorry that seasons 4 and 5 seems to be not forthcoming but since all the supporting cartoons in those seasons were either repeats from seasons one thru three or cartoons from other producers, the producers of these DVD sets might be at a loss at how to package the last seasons. More adult humor per minute than anything Pixar has ever done. This is funnier than the Incredibles or Shrek even though it is totally "low-fi" animation. Every attempt to turn their characters into movies failed miserably. Mr. Peabody and Sherman (a brilliant dog with a boy as a pet), Dudley Do-right (in love with Nell who was in love with his horse), Fractured Fables and the Marlena Dietrich sounding femme fatale Natasha-what a variety show! Parody and satire is rarely done well in children's television and this is the gold standard. These 36 digitally remastered episodes in the original broadcast order also include everyone's favorite Fractured Fairy Tales. Amazon.com Now here's something you don't see everyday, Chauncey. It's the complete first season of one of television's smartest, savviest, and most subversively funny animated series, ranked by TV Guide as one of the top 50 series of all time. Like the animators at Warner Bros.' Termite Terrace (birthplace of Porky, Daffy, and Bugs), producer Jay Ward, his partner Bill Scott (the voice of Bullwinkle), and the cracked writing staff did not write down to children. The dialogue is witty and sharply satiric. Characters break the "fourth wall" between the screen and the audience. They make sly references to the show's creators and the television network. They hurl barbs of mass destruction at Washington, D.C. politicians. And then there are the godawful puns. This four-disc set contains the series' first two serial adventures. "Jet Fuel Formula" is a cold war-era blast, as Rocky (voiced by June Foray, the Queen of Cartoons) and Bullwinkle frantically race to re-create a rocket fuel recipe (actually Grandma Bullwinkle's recipe for mooseberry fudge cake), while being menaced by those no-goodniks Boris Badenov and femme fatale Natasha. "Box Top Robbery" reveals that the basis for the world's economy is not gold and silver, but cereal box tops. Linking these cliffhanging episodes are such hilarious segments as "Fractured Fairy Tales," which upend familiar storybook favorites (Red Riding Hood, for example, is a predatory fur merchant after the unwitting wolf), "Mr. Peabody," the canine genius who travels through time in the company of his boy, Sherman, and forthright Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties, who must contend with his own horse for the affections of sweet Nell. Bullwinkle gets extra credits as Mr. Know-It-All and as the host of Poetry Corner. And watch him pull a rabbit out of his hat! These cartoons are as fresh and funny as when they first aired more than four decades ago. Boomer-era adults will be amazed at the jokes that no doubt soared over their heads as children. --Donald Liebenson
